LURK Made Natural Perfumes

Sniff, sniff….  Do you smell that?  It’s synthetic fragrance.  It stinks.  Like, so bad.  If we could only pass a law that no celebrity could create a fragrance ever again… the world would smell so much better….

If you are a Green fragrance convert like myself, you frequently find yourself gagging on other people’s perfume choices.  And for those of you who would like to convert, but are afraid that you’ll smell like a pachouli-packing hippie, calm the eff down – the other side smells great!

Case in point: LURK Perfume Oils.  I wrote about them a while back and I am still a big fan.  Anne Sanford creates the most beautiful, sophisticated fragrances in her studios in Soho and Sag Harbor using only pure essential oils mixed with organic jojoba oil.  My two favorites are RSW005 and BS003.

RSW005: Warm sandalwood and earthy rose produce this androgenous scent. Smooth with a crisp citrus finish. An essential scent to slake even the most parched perfume palette.

PRJV1: Expansive layers of jasmine and rose intertwine with fresh petitgrain. Raw, unrefined, possibly debaucherous, definitely pleasing.

AS01: Notes of cedarwood, tuberose and sweet rose come together with a hint of spice to produce this slightly viscous yet subtle scent.

BS003: Dry woods mix with crisp citrus notes and sweet bergamot to produce this effervescent yet balanced fragrance.

TBPV1: Sultry florals blend seamlessly into a base of resinous black pepper. An antidote for the fragrance jaded.

In case you need a refresher course as to why synthetic fragrance is so bad for you:

  • Parabens are a synthetic preservative used in conventional perfumes.  They interfere with the production and release of hormones.
  • Phthalates are another synthetic preservative found in all synthetic fragrance.  They are bad news.  Not only are they an endocrine (hormone) disruptor, they are a known carcinogen.
  • Synthetic Musks are also an endocrine disruptor.  These can be found in air and water samples, human tissue, breast milk and umbilical cord blood.  They also cause allergies.
  • A good doctor will tell you to stop wearing (synthetic) perfume while you are pregnant.  This is always a red flag for me.  If it is harmful to the unborn baby, than it can’t be very good for us, either…
