Earlier this month Maryna Kracht, founder of Mahalo Skincare, emailed me about a product that she was about to launch. She described the development of this item as a passion project that would benefit a social cause that was dear to her. Would I help spread the word? You bet! Some of you may know that I have a bleeding heart, and I just cannot say “no” to a good cause, but this one is such a win-win.
The Product: I would have happily reviewed and worn The Red My Lips Tint, even if there were no cause attached to it at all! IT is a beautiful, universally flattering red lipstick. The lip tint comes in a beautiful, handmade bamboo compact; it has a mirror and it’s refillable, which I love. It also comes with a vegan lip brush. The formula itself is creamy and rich, but a little goes a long way, as the color is super-saturated. The finish is mostly matte with a slight sheen, and the color is a very classic red; not too cool, not too warm. It is beautiful, and it wears very well (it lasts through dinner). I’m becoming a bigger fan of lipstick as I get older. There is something about a bold color that really perks up your face, and this color is so glamorous.
The Cause: Red My Lips is a non-profit organization who runs a month-long global red lip-wearing campaign every April where supporters from around the world join together to speak out against rape myths and victim-blaming, demonstrate solidarity and support for all survivors, and raise awareness and funds. In April 2015, over 500,000 people from 99 countries joined the red lips campaign to spark important conversations with people in their lives, challenge rape myths and extend love and support to those who have been victimized. Because Mahalo Skincare cares so much about this non-profit, a portion of the proceeds from all Red My Lips Tint sales will go toward this cause during the month of April.
