About Bare Beauty

In 2011, a miscarriage and some other unexplained health issues caused me to take a good, hard look at the “healthy” lifestyle I thought I was living. I was already occasionally seeing a naturopath, (Dr. Sherri Jacobs) so I enlisted her help. She shed light on the environmental toxins lurking everywhere and on how they significantly affect the endocrine (hormonal) system. Dr. Sherri coached me on ways to decrease my exposure toxins in food, air, water, household cleaners, and more. The only category she couldn’t help me with was all the skincare, makeup and personal care products I was using, as she is a purist, and I am a product junkie. I decided that I wanted to do whatever I could to improve my health and my chances of becoming pregnant naturally, so I started to research the ingredients in my favorite products. I consumed books, scientific papers, and medical studies, and I was horrified at what I found. Down the rabbit hole I fell. I vowed to replace everything in my makeup bag, medicine cabinet, and shower.

The blog was not incredibly premeditated. I started writing Bare Beauty in 2012 as a way to document my findings in my quest for effective green beauty products. I also wanted to share this information to help others who were interested in making the switch, but overwhelmed by all the noise out there. Fast forward to today, and I’m a self-taught expert in the world of clean beauty and nontoxic living. I live a sweet life with my husband and two children in Charleston, South Carolina. I also opened The Water Room, a nontoxic nail salon, in 2019. So much has changed in the beauty industry in 8 years, and I am committed to pushing it further. I am so grateful for the opportunity to continue to contribute to the world of clean beauty. From the outside in, blogging can sometimes look like a vanity project, but my primary goal was, is, and always will be to help others. Never hesitate to reach out with questions, comments, or requests. This space is for all of us.
