For the Kiddos: Nontoxic Pacifiers

Annabel, after her Baptism, June 2014

Ugh, I SWORE that Annabel wouldn’t be a pacifier-baby.  Actually, she wasn’t until she was six or seven months old.  Her teething was so unbearable, for all of us, that I just gave in; it was the only thing that helped.  Now that I am an experienced (?) mother, I realize that I have a happy, healthy, smart child, and giving her a pacifier at bedtime, naptime and when she is teething (and airplanes, and quiet restaurants) is not the end of the world.  We are working on weaning her off the darn thing this summer.  I guess she will need braces…  Whatever, we needed sleep.

I do have to say, though, that I have felt really good about the pacifier we used.  Natursutten is a Danish company started by concerned mother, Anne-Dorthe Schroeder.  Their products are made in Italy and conform to the European Union (EU) directive concerned with safety, health and environment.  These pacifiers are made from 100% natural, sustainable rubber from the tree Hevea brasiliensis.  (The protein that on rare occasions can provoke a latex allergy is eliminated during production.)  They are biodegradable, softer than silicone, and they’re very hygienic because they are molded in one piece without joints or cracks where dirt and bacteria can accumulate.  (All of Annabel’s grandparents hate the way it looks, but is any pacifier truly cute?)

You also avoid:
• Allergy causing substances
• Artificial color
• Cancer causing substances
• Hormone disturbing substances
• Chemical softeners
• BPA, Nitrosamines, Parabens, PVC and Phthalates

So, if I have to endorse a pacifier, this is it, folks!
