Makeup for Makeup Junkies: Nu Evolution

This post has been a long time coming!  A few months ago, I realized that I was in a makeup rut.  I was happy there, and loving what I was using, but it’s my job to review it all for you, and there were a few new-to-me cosmetic lines out there that I hadn’t yet tried.  One of them is Nu Evolution, and I have to say that I didn’t know what I was missing!  International makeup artist Kristen Arnett said it best, Nu Evolution is the MAC of the Green beauty world.  I chatted with Nu Evolution’s founders, Nadine Cormier and Sandra Anderson-Diaz for almost an hour; they are very intelligent, driven women with proven track records in business.  Like so many of us, health problems led them to Green living and Green beauty.  They weren’t satisfied with the performance of any of the Green cosmetic lines they tried, so they created their own, and it’s impressive.  Not only is this line free from all the nasty ingredients, it’s cruelty-free and made in the USA.  Nu Evolution is definitely a makeup junkie’s makeup line.  Let me tell you all about it (and scroll down for a coupon code).

Nu Evolution’s cosmetics are highly pigmented and provide full coverage.  If I know I’ll be dancing the night away at a wedding, or I have a big event, this is the line I’ll be reaching for.  One day, I applied all the cosmetics shown above in the morning, and other than my lips, I didn’t need one touch-up, even before going out for dinner at 8pm.  True story – my makeup didn’t budge.  Another great feature?  Most of their mineral powder products (foundation, eye shadow, blush) are in pressed powder compacts.  For me, this is huge.  When I’m in a hurry or applying on the go, messing with loose powder is the last thing I feel like doing.

Let me walk you through the look I’m wearing above.

  • First, I applied Camouflage Cream in Nude under my eyes.  It is a thick, full-coverage concealer that hides under eye circles, blemishes, redness, you name it.  And, it doesn’t slide off or crease – yes, seriously.
  • I’m not usually a liquid foundation gal, but I know some of you are.  I used Complete Coverage Foundation in 102, and I was surprised by how much I loved it.  It provides great coverage, and unlike most natural foundations, it dries to a matte finish.  I applied it using a damp Beauty Blender to prevent the caked-on-foundation-look.
  • Once the foundation was dry, I applied Pressed Powder Foundation on 201 all over my face and neck with a big, fluffy brush.  Again, great coverage, but even after all this face makeup, I still didn’t look chalky or too matte.  The finish was natural looking.
  • I’ve been using Nu Evolution’s Pressed Blush in Flushed pretty consistently, and it is the best Clean mineral powder blush I’ve found so far.  It is highly-pigmented, so it doesn’t fade over the course of the day, and it is a DEAD RINGER for Nars powder blush in Orgasm.
  • The Eyeshadows are also very highly-pigmented, and they don’t crease at all.  First, I applied Chiffon (a peachy-pink nude) all over my entire lid with a fluffy eye shadow brush.  Next, I applied Socialite (a rich metallic bronze) in the crease of the lid.  Last, I lined the upper and lower lid with Chocolate Mousse (a dark, classic brown).
  • Nu Evolution’s Mascara is excellent at both lengthening and volumizing lashes.  I love the fluffy brush and the formula dries in an instant.
  • Nu Evolution’s Lipstick in Coquette is the most vivid, beautiful pink coral.  The formula is creamy and moisturizing, but has great staying-power.
  • I applied Lip Gloss in Riviera over my lipstick for a little shine.  It’s also beautiful on its own.  This gloss is hydrating (not sticky!), and the color is highly-saturated.
