March Beauty Hero: Skin Owl

March Beauty Hero

Well, I’m not sure how the heck it is March 16th, but let me say that I have absolutely loved the March Beauty Heroes Box.  These days, there are so many Green Beauty brands, (good problem) that even we bloggers miss some of them.  Beauty Heroes does such a great job of gleaning the best products from the best product lines and sending those full-size superheroes right to your door.  This month, they featured Skin Owl, which I’ve been meaning to try for a long time, and I’m so glad I finally did!

Annie Tevelin, the founder of Skin Owl, is a perfect fit for Beauty Heroes slogan, “Use Less, Love More”.  As a former professional makeup artist in the mainstream beauty industry, she found that product lines pushed “more” – more products, more money spent – only leaving their customers wanting… more.  Not only had she become a victim of this vicious cycle, she’d been suffering with cystic acne and eczema, so Annie enrolled in a cosmetic chemistry certificate program at UCLA.  In her gut, she knew there had to be a better way.  After receiving her certificate, she travelled the world studying plant-based ingredients in their own habitat, and discovered the power of Mangosteen Oil, which just happens to be one of the superstar ingredients in Skin Owl’s Beauty Drops PM.

Annie was finally able to prove her theory that less is more when it comes to skincare.  Skin Owl Beauty Drops PM contains cold-pressed super fruits – South African baobab oil and Southeast Asian mangosteen oil –  and it works on most skin types to calm inflammation, soothe and clear acne, protect from oxidative stress and fortify skin with essential minerals, sealing in skin’s natural moisture.  About the size of a small coconut, the baobab fruit is loaded with magnesium, calcium, Vitamin C and other antioxidants, offering powerful anti-inflammatory protection. Deep purple and sweet-tasting mangosteen, used throughout Asia for its antibacterial and antiviral benefits, clears, balances and restores skin back to health. Beauty Drops PM’s high ORAC value (Oxygen Radical Absorbance Capacity), takes antioxidant concentration to new heights.

My skin has been pretty clear for a while, but I’m definitely blemish prone.  I was plagued by cystic acne for a few years, and I’m always terrified that it will return with a vengeance.  As a beauty blogger, trying new skincare products is my job, but I’m selective – and cautious.  I do my research, and I only try products that I feel confident about.  Knowing that Annie has been down the same road, I was actually excited to get started.  This serum not only did NOT break me out, it brought an immediate glow to my face; each morning, my skin seemed a little less inflamed/red.  Also, this stuff smells so good, (think: natural fruit punch), that I almost smile while drifting off to sleep.

March’s “sidekick” product is a Helichrysum Beauty Steam, which is a like a good herbal tea for your face.  With our faces so often exposed to car exhaust, air pollution and other environmental airborne toxins, Annie found it was paramount that the herbs in the Heroic Helichrysum Beauty Steam purify and detox the skin.  This delightful little product has been such a treat.

Beauty Heroes March Mantra is “Skincare is Self care”.  It couldn’t be more true.  Taking care of your skin is not just a vanity project – your skin is your home, and it’s the only one you get for an entire lifetime.  Making the time for an AM and PM skincare ritual is a way to nurture yourself; it’s a way to practice self-love.  And, I think we could all use a little more of that.
