Minding Your Mitochondria

Have any of you watched this fascinating TED Talks video?  Dr. Sherri Jacobs sent it to me almost two years ago and it changed the way I thought about eating.  Our society has really lost touch with the true purpose of food: nutrition.  It is about so much more than cravings, convenience, weight loss, or even fuel for a workout.  Dr. Terry Wahls shows us that the right food can be the difference between life and death – literally.  Watching this again also renews my determination to eat as healthfully as I can throughout my pregnancy.  White flour and white sugar might be delicious and satiating, but what are they really doing for me and my unborn baby?  Not much.

This video speaks specifically to neurological diseases like Multiple Sclerosis, Parkinson’s Disease, and Alzheimer’s Disease.  I have more than a few loved ones plagued by these heinous conditions and it is both encouraging and frustrating to know that what we eat for breakfast, lunch and dinner can do more for us than the medications we are prescribed.

It’s a long one, but stick it out – I know you will feel more informed and encouraged after watching it!
