Meet your new gym bag essential

Ah, haircare.  I am never not testing new, Clean options.  I’m always trying the latest and greatest, hoping for a nontoxic miracle.  I suppose it’s because I have fine, flat hair that’s oily at the top, but dry and damaged at the ends, but I think that a lot of women are constantly looking for products that will make the most of what they’ve got.  The Choosy Chick has picked up some great haircare lines recently that I wanted to share with you…. and even a new “miracle” product that you definitely need in your gym bag.  (Scroll down for an awesome COUPON CODE.)

ahnesti hair & scalp refresher review on

I have written about Ahnesti Haircare products in the past (I love the Puriti Uplifting shampoo and conditioner for moisture that doesn’t leave me hair flat), and they recently launched an incredible breakthrough product, Eterniti Hair and Scalp Refresher.  I’ve never seen or tried anything like it, and I don’t use this word often, but I’m obsessed.  This product is perfect for after a workout, next-day-hair, or when there’s no time to re-wash hair after a long, hot day.  Unlike dry shampoo, which masks dirt and oil and leaves a film, Ahnesti’s hair and scalp refresher actually cleanses hair, restoring volume, shine and manageability.

How it works:  Ahnesti Eternity Hair and Scalp Refresher is a cleansing refresher-spray.  Organic Lavender Alcohol (made from lavender essential oil and grain) is a non-flammable, color-safe purifier and deodorizer that won’t strip or damage hair.  Coco Glucoside is a surfactant derived from coconut oil and fruit sugar that cleanses the scalp and adds texture to hair.  Rice Extract helps hair retain moisture, preventing fly-aways.

To use: I hold the refresher about 3-4 inches away from my scalp and spray lightly at the root; be careful not to oversaturate!  I spray it all along the hairline around my face, the nape of my neck and where I part my hair as well as a few sections underneath.  Then I quickly massage it in with my fingers and gently rub/blot the areas of application with a clean, dry towel.  This step is essential for removing oil and dirt, so don’t skip it.  Last, I blow dry my hair for a few seconds, and voilá!  My hair looks and feels clean and fresh, volume is restored and it smells great.  For best results, wait until hair needs a refresher; don’t style newly-washed hair with this product, and don’t wait until your hair has gone unwashed for days and days, either.  SAVE 20% ON AHNESTI ETERNITI HAIR & SCALP REFRESHER WITH CODE: REFRESH.

Why conventional dry shampoo is not the best choice: For one, it always contains synthetic fragrance, which contains phthalates, which are known endocrine-disruptors and suspected carcinogens.  (They are especially dangerous to fetuses.)  Remember, everything that contains “perfume”, “parfum” or “fragrance” that is not 100% naturally derived most likely contains phthalates.  Conventional dry shampoo spray contains Aluminum Starch Octenylsuccinate, which is essentially an Aluminum Salt.  This is also found in antiperspirants.  While it soaks up oil, sweat and odor very efficiently, this nonessential metal is terrible for you.  Aluminum is a neurotoxin and our scalp is some of  the most porous skin on our entire body.  Do the math there.  Aerosol dry shampoos also contain butane, propane – yes, what lights your grill in the backyard – and isobutane.  And, lastly, when we spray this junk, we are inhaling it, even if we kid ourselves by holding our breath.

Evolvh Review on

The Choosy Chick also recently picked up Evolvh Haircare, and it’s excellent.  I love the Ultrashine Moisture Shampoo.  Great for all hair types, it lathers and cleanses really well, and it smells beautiful.  Hair is left soft, silky and hydrated without being weighed down.  While supplies last, receive a FREE travel-size leave-in conditioner with purchase of the full-size shampoo.

I’d love to hear what you think of this product if you purchase it.  I think it will truly become a staple for busy gals everywhere.

Have a great weekend!
