Um, this is more difficult than I thought it would be. I’ve been working out (hard, like I kind of want to cry) 4-5 days a week for almost three weeks and the scale hasn’t budged. I’m not dieting, but I’m watching what I eat, and I’m nursing (which, for me, is even harder than working out, ugh). I know, I know, be patient, Jessica. I hear you, but I am not listening to you. I’m not patient, especially with myself.
A few of my friends have suggested fitness apps and I thought I would share them with you. They are a great way to track your progress and stay motivated.
My friend, Katie, swears by this app post-baby, and she has the body of a ballerina. I used it a few years ago pretty faithfully, and it did work. It’s basically a calorie counter. You log your personal stats and how much weight you want to lose. Then, you keep track of your food intake (calories in) and activity (calories out). It can take a while to upload your recipes to log exact calories consumed, but it saves all the information, so when you eat the same meal the next day or week, it becomes less time consuming to use. It is super gratifying to see your progress (weight loss) on its little graphs!
If money motivates you, maybe you should try Gym-Pact. You enter your credit card information during set-up as well as your fitness goal (for example, going to the gym five times per week) and choose a penalty ($5 minimum) for each time you miss your workout. When you do meet your goal, you get paid by the members who don’t. I would not recommend this to a new mom who does not have consistent childcare. You will inevitably miss some workouts when junior vomits on you and starts crying uncontrollably. Then, you’ll end up feeling fatter, guiltier, and sadder than you did before. But for the rest of the world, I think this is an amazing idea.
I always say, “I don’t run unless I’m desperate”. Well, desperate times call for desperate measures and I might have to become a runner for a little while. My friend, Carter, swore by this app when trying to lose her baby weight (which she did, and then some, within less than 5 months of having her adorable son). I love the plan: commit 30 minutes per day, 3 days per week, for 9 weeks and you are ready to run a 5K. Well, I do NOT plan on competing in a marathon, but I just may jump on this bandwagon. 30 minutes a day 3 day a week? That is easy enough. And I’ve never seen a fattie running a marathon…
Any other apps, gadgets, etc. that you swear and sweat by? Please share them with us! Who doesn’t love a success story?
Happy fat burning!
