Thinking Differently About Breast Cancer Awareness

Please forgive me for saying this, but it seems to me that more and more, Breast Cancer Awareness Month has just become the mega-marketing machine’s lead up to the Halloween-Thanksgiving-Religious-Holiday-Season.  This is unfortunate because it is a hugely important cause and it deserves much better.

What angers me most is seeing cosmetic companies that are trying to cash in on the cause by selling limited editions of their normal products packaged in pink.  Sure, a percentage of the proceeds may go to breast cancer research, but if these manufacturers really cared about ending breast cancer, wouldn’t they make an effort to reformulate their products altogether?  After all, most conventional beauty brands still employ ethanolamines, formaldehyde, parabens, phthalates, propylene glycol, SLS, and triclosan.  These are known endocrine disruptors and carcinogens.  In other words, if you want to avoid breast cancer, one of the many preventative measures you would want to take is to immediately stop using products that contain these ingredients, not buy more of them.

You get my point.  Enough ranting.  Now, something positive.

What it does not contain: parabens, petroleum, propylene or butylene glycol, SLS, phthalates, artificial dyes or synthetic fragrances.  By the way, Juice Beauty’s products are awesome.  They are Clean, effective, widely available and affordable.  20% of the proceeds from these kits will be donated to the Breast Cancer Research Fund.  Value: $77.  Cost: $45.  Purchase it here.
