I received an overwhelming response to yesterday’s post about baby soap/body wash/bubble bath, so we are going to continue down this road to baby shampoo.  Thank you to reader Chantal for recommending two more Clean baby product lines: Original Sprout and Babo Botanicals!  Although I have not tried them, I’ve read their ingredients and they look to check out okay.

First off, children two years and younger really don’t need separate products for hair vs. body as most of them don’t have that much hair or oil on their scalp  There are plenty of two-in-one products out there.  Why mess with two bottles?

FYI: Most tear free formulas (but not all) have the exact same ingredients as regular shampoo, only there is a numbing agent added so baby’s eyes don’t sting.  That kind of freaks me out, but there are plenty of Clean options available, both tear-free and not, so I am going to chalk this one up to preference.  I don’t have to bathe a screaming, crying, blinded-by-shampoo baby (yet), so I’m not going to preach.

California Baby is a great product line.  They have quite a few varieties of shampoo/body wash to choose from and while they are tear-free, they do not contain numbing agents.  After doing some research, it seems like adjusting the pH in a product can achieve tear-free status naturally.  A novel idea!  Cost: about $12 for 8.5 oz.  Purchase it here or at Whole Foods.
