My Morning Beauty Routine

my morning routine on barebeauty.com

What’s your morning beauty routine?  I get this question a lot, and recently the ladies over at Glitter Guide asked me the same thing.  The truth is, for a beauty blogger, my routine is pretty quick and minimal; there are days where I don’t wear any makeup at all.  I’m a busy mother, and I’d rather get things done or spend time with my children than primp in front of a mirror for hours.  While I’m always trying new products, constantly being short on time means that my standards are extra-high; it has to be easy to use, it has to work, and of course, it has to be nontoxic (extra points when products smell good and the packaging is beautiful and sustainably made).

Here is a quick rundown of my morning beauty routine:

On most weekdays, I take a run or do Orangetheory, (Pilates and Yoga are on hold right now because of my fractured elbow and sprained wrist, sigh) so I have to shower afterwards because I’m a sweaty mess.  Before hopping in the shower, I dry brush if I have time.  I wash my hair with Rahua Color Full Shampoo and Conditioner, I use True Botanicals Nourishing Wash, and I wash my face with True Botanicals CLEAR Hydrating Cleanser.  After showering, I either use True Botanicals Nourishing Lotion or Weleda Arnica Muscle Massage Oil (it’s amazing for sore muscles) while my skin is still damp.  I use Vapour Organic Beauty AER Next Level Deodorant.  I have been testing natural deodorants for 6 years, and it is the best.  Next I apply True Botanicals CLEAR Toner and CLEAR Pure Radiance Oil.  I use Laurel Whole Plant Organics Eye Serum on the skin around my eyes.  I never go a day without using SPF.  My favorite is True Botanicals Everyday Sheer Coverage SPF 20, which is tinted, in Light.  I even use this as a primer for makeup at night; I love it so much.  I spritz the roots of my towel dried hair with Intelligent Nutrients Volumizing Spray and I apply Jordan Seban Le Baume to the ends – it is the only leave-in treatment that doesn’t make my fine hair greasy and limp.  I let my hair air dry most of the way while I do my makeup.  First, I apply W3LL PEOPLE Bio Correct Multi Action Concealer; it is the best concealer I’ve found for the delicate skin under the eyes,  but it’s not too creamy, so it doesn’t crease.  Next, I dampen a Beauty Blender and apply a little bit of Kjaer Weis Cream Foundation in Just Sheer to even things out.  I am obsessed with RMS Beauty Eye Polish in Solar.  I use it all year long, and it’s my go-to when I don’t have time to get creative with my makeup.  I have oily skin and I live in a humid climate, so I have to “set” my makeup with powder.  I set my eye makeup and concealer with W3LL PEOPLE Bio Brightening Powder, which isn’t too mattifying or drying – it contains pearl powder and aloe.  I set my face with RMS Tinted “Un” Powder in 2-3.  I LOVE this powder.  It sets, it soaks up oil, but it doesn’t leave skin looking chalky; it creates the perfect amount of coverage.  I’m a bronzer girl (J. Lo is my makeup spirit animal), and my favorite is Lily Lolo Pressed Bronzer in Miami Beach – it’s not too orange.  Next, I curl my lashes and apply Lily Lolo Vegan Black Mascara.  It’s the only formula that doesn’t smudge on me, and it lengthens and volumizes.  Then, I apply a little RMS Master Mixer or Living Luminizer on my brow bones and cheekbones, down the center of my nose and in the inner corners of my eyes.  With the exception of foundation, I apply all cream formulas with my fingers; it’s just faster.  I use Plume Nourish & Define Brow Pomade in Ashy Daybreak to fill in my brows; it’s the perfect dark taupe.  I apply blush last, which prevents me from applying too much (a very common mistake).  I like W3LL PEOPLE Nudist Multi Use Cream Stick in Nude Rose.  And, I am never, ever without my 28 Litsea Tinted Petala Lip Balm in In Love.  I literally buy it by the dozen so that I never run out.  People ask me what I’m wearing whenever I have it on….  Lastly, I flip my hair upside down and blow dry it, and I use a jumbo curling iron to bend the ends.  From start to finish, this takes me about 45 minutes.

A few other news bites:

the best nontoxic baby care products on barebeauty.com

I was thrilled when Weleda asked the kids and I to be a part of their new “Inner Nature” campaign.  We shot everything in a day back in November in Malibu, and it was such a cool experience.  If you’ve been following along for a while, you know how crazy I am about their Calendula-based baby care line.  It’s practically all I used on both Annabel and Woody in the first year of each of their lives.  We filmed some video material and we took lots of beautiful photos.  Woody and I have our own You can find most of their products at Whole Foods, and they are also in some Target stores, now, which is so exciting!

the green beauty icons box on barebeauty.com

AILLEA Beauty recently partnered with celebrity nontoxic beauty makeup artist, Kristen Arnett, to launch The Green Beauty Icons Box, which applauds the pioneers of the clean, green beauty movement.  There are only 250 of these boxes, which are filled with Icon products from each of the icons being recognized.  Beyond a box of 7 products, those who purchase will also get private links to videos made by Kristen and each Icon brand founder.  They will talk about their brand story, why their chosen “icon” product is such a hit, and how to use it correctly.  The Green Beauty Icons Box is available for $98, but is valued at $260.  It’s a great deal, and it just so happens that every single product included is a longtime favorite of mine!

That’s all for today!  Trying to get back into our routine after a quick adult spring break (check Instagram for pics).  I’m so happy to be back at home with the kiddos!
