Summertime, and the living’s… lazy… The warmest season is my favorite season. I love how we give ourselves permission to eschew the tight daily grind, the layers upon layers of clothing and serious skincare and makeup for spontaneous fun, easy dressing and paired-down beauty routines. I thought this would be a great time to introduce you to a woman after my own heart, Jenny Patinkin. Jenny is a renowned makeup artist who has worked with celebrities and models, but her most gratifying experiences come from teaching normal women how to use makeup on an everyday basis. She has her own “beauty school”, and has developed her own method of applying makeup that really speaks to me; I think you will love it, too. It’s called Lazy Perfection, and she has written a book by the same name.
Lazy Perfection is not about being lazy or perfect; the idea is to be able to learn how to apply makeup to your own unique face, and make it work for you without too much effort. Jenny and I share the philosophy that makeup should make you look like a polished version of yourself, not an overly made-up version of a certain celebrity. Her book is perfect for those of us who aren’t going to sit in front of YouTube videos for hours (although the videos on her site and on her Instagram profile are awesome and so helpful). Also, if you are a total makeup novice, but you want to learn how to apply a simple, quick face, or an easy evening look, this book would be a great place to start. It gives practical tips and advice, but it also acts like a dictionary, complete with infographics. (Do you know if your eyes are deep set, round, hooded, upturned, etc.? Do you know where the apple of your cheek really is? You will now.) Jenny takes the intimidation and mystery out of cosmetics, and you are going to love her for it!
Jenny also developed her own vegan set of makeup brushes, which I really love. I’d been looking for high quality, vegan brushes, and I was hoping to find some that were not made by a cosmetics line, but a makeup artist who uses lots of different brands and formulas. Her Lazy Perfection Petit Set is amazing quality, there are only 5, (which is all anyone needs for day-t0-day makeup) and they are small, so they’re travel-friendly. I LOVE these brushes.
Jenny is taking over my Instagram Stories on Tuesday, June 5 around 12pm EST. She is going to demonstrate how to use her Lazy Perfection Petite brush kit, and she’s going to give us lots of easy tips we can apply to our everyday makeup routine. I’ll keep her videos up on my Highlight Reel as well for your reference.
We are also partnering on a giveaway! One lucky winner will receive a copy of Lazy Perfection, as well as a set of Lazy Perfection Petite brushes. The giveaway will also be on my Instagram profile on June 5th (@barebeautyblog), so check in with us to enter as well as learn a thing, or two!
