A lot of you must be Mommas, because I always get a huge response when I post about Clean child & baby products. Today, we are covering diaper rash creams. Uber-sexy, I know.
So, the active ingredient in diaper rash cream is usually zinc (zinc oxide). I wonder if it can double as a sunscreen?! Note: zinc will ruin cloth diapers. What you will find in addition to this ingredient in most conventional diaper rash creams: parabens, mineral oil / petrolatum, and BHA, which has been found to be toxic to the liver, blood, and central nervous system. Yuck. I’ve rounded up some good ones, below. And please, if you know of a Clean one that works wonders, we are all dying to hear about it. Speak up!
ERBAVIVA ORGANIC DIAPER CREAM
Erbaviva diaper cream does contain zinc oxide. It also contains echinacea to heal and protect as well as calming essential oils like lavender and chamomile. Cost: about $16 for 2.5 oz. Purchase it here.
Ingredients: De-ionized water, zinc oxide, organic almond oil, avocado oil, cetearyl wheat bran glycosides, and cetearyl alcohol, echinacea extract, lecithin, algae extract, beeswax, allantoin, sodium hydroxymethylglycinate (preservative at only 0.3%), organic essential oils of lavender and roman chamomile.
WELEDA CALENDULA DIAPER CARE CREAM
This one does contain lanolin, which is found in the sebaceous glands of sheep. Wool is usually treated with pesticides before the lanolin is extracted, so it’s a little questionable. If it is in a product that is really Clean otherwise, I might give it a pass. This is one of those products. I love Weleda and I love calendula-anything. Also, this contains zinc oxide. Cost: about $13.50 for 2.8 oz. Purchase it here.
