Happy Monday, Bare Beauties! When Jeannie Jarnot, the founder of Beauty Heroes, tapped me to curate a list of my favorites, I was honored. When she asked if I’d like to give (3) of the products away to one lucky follower, I was delighted. And, when she asked if I’d like to offer all my followers 10% off everything* in the Beauty Heroes shop, I was pumped! What a fun and generous collaboration for THE month of giving. (Scroll down to the bottom of this post to enter the giveaway, which is open 12/5-12/19.)
For those of you who don’t know about Beauty Heroes, it is my absolute favorite beauty subscription box, and the only one I work with (I do not get paid to work with them, but I do earn affiliate dollars, a.k.a. commission, on sales generated through my reviews. If there is something I try that I don’t really, truly love, I won’t write about it, so how is that for an honest review?!) Jeannie puts so much research, effort, and love into her selections for Beauty Heroes. She herself is a hero of the clean beauty movement – she is passionate and has a wealth of knowledge and experience that we are all lucky enough to benefit from.
So! On to my picks. I went through the entire Beauty Heroes inventory and chose my favorite products. You can shop my curated selection here. (Don’t forget to use code BAREBEAUTY for a 10% discount December 5th-19th.)
Mahalo Skincare Vacation Glow Hair + Body Oil: This really is like a-vacation-in-a-bottle. This highly-absorbant body oil is like a golden veil for skin – hydrating Kukui, balancing Macadamia, repairing Sea Buckthorn, skin-miracle Argan, scar-fading Avocado, problem-solving Tamanu and youth enhancing COQ10 oils feed and restore skin and hair, while just a hint of golden mica provides a very subtle, warm shimmer. The scent of Sandalwood, Geranium and Jasmine is warm, floral and intoxicating.
Modern Minerals Emotive Lotus Wei Infused Eye Shadow (Shown in Rose Quartz): This eye shadow quickly became a favorite when I tried it last summer. It’s shimmery, but not sparkly, and unlike some other powder shadows, it doesn’t irritate my sensitive eyes. This universally flattering shadow works great as all over the eyelid on its own, as a highlighter on the brow bone, or as a blending shadow paired with other colors. Don’t let the name fool you; it’s more of a “neutral” than a “pink” once it’s on the skin. Oh, and it doesn’t crease. Score.
Ethereal Botanical Fragrance by Josh Rosebrook: I cannot imagine that anyone would NOT fall in love this new fragrance. I love that it is shareable (unisex), and it is 100% clean and nontoxic. It’s warm, but airy; and earthy, but delicate; sweet, but spicy. Perfection.
Kari Gran Tinted Peppermint Lip Whip: Throw away your Rosebud Salve right now. Best lip product in a pot ever made, right here! It really is a “whipped” balm, so it’s soft and light and easy to apply. No digging required. Lip Whip is incredibly moisturizing (it’s still on your lips when you wake up the next morning when applied at bedtime) and it’s kind of thick, in a good way. Organic beeswax locks in moisture to heal dry, cracked lips and a host of other organic oils nourish and rejuvenate. It also looks so pretty on. The pretty pink tinted gives that subtle, slightly pink, your-lips-but-better look, and the peppermint makes me feel fresh and clean.
Modern Minerals Emotive Lotus Wei Infused Lip Gloss has a beautiful, light, floral scent. Seriously, smell it when you open it; it is truly uplifting. The colors appear very bold and a bit shimmery in the tube, but on the lips they look like a sheer, glossy wash of gorgeous color. These universally flattering glosses are not at all sticky or tacky, and they truly moisturizes the lips.
Maya Chia The Super Couple: this fabulous face serum pairs supercritical chia oil with the natural antioxidant astaxanthin (from a micro algae plant), which is 65x stronger that Vitamin C and 14X stronger that Vitamin E in combating free radicals. Together, they increase firmness and resiliency as well as inhibit melanin production, increasing brightness and tone. It’s also pink in color, so while it’s improving my skin in the long-term, my complexion is truly glowing when I use this oil. It’s truly one of the best I’ve ever tried.
Kahina Giving Beauty Moroccan Rose Beldi Soap and Kessa Mitt: This moisturizing, exfoliating duo is unlike anything I’ve ever tried. Straight from the hammams (traditional spas) of Morocco, this unique, gel-like soap softens skin like nothing else. Once a week, I get into a hot shower, allowing my pores to open. Then, I spread this luscious saponified olive oil all over my body and allow it to penetrate for about 5 minutes. This is a great opportunity to apply a face or hair mask, or just relax and breathe deeply – the rose oil has wonderful aromatherapy benefits. Then, I work the Kessa exfoliating mitt in a heavy circular motion. Katharine L’Heureux, the founder of Kahina Giving Beauty, has said that while she dry brushes regularly, (as do I) she is always amazed at how her skin literally rolls off when she uses this magical soap. I was a little nervous, but wow! My skin has never felt so soft, and I swear it looks… younger? This has been a favorite weekly-or-so ritual over the winter, especially since dry brushing is to be avoided during pregnancy.
Plume Lash + Brown Enhancing Serum: Plume is legit; it WORKS. This product doesn’t sting or irritate my eyes at all, and within 4 weeks, I saw amazing results ( I still use it, almost a year later)! My lashes are much longer and definitely fuller. And, because Plume is totally natural, you can use it while pregnant or nursing. Plume works by stimulating follicle growth while hydrating and protecting; lashes grow longer and stronger, so they don’t fall out as often as they do when you use nothing. Ingredients like organic Aloe Aera, Castor Oil and Honey Extract moisturize and provide anti-fungal and antibacterial properties; ingredients like Watercress, Indian Cress, Coltsfoot Flower, Yarrow Flower and Peruvian Bark Extract have seemingly magical hair lengthening and strengthening powers. There are two ingredients that sound a bit sketchy, but aren’t: Sucrose Laurate is an emulsifier that is naturally obtained from hydrogenation and esterification of sugar cane and vegetable oil; Sodium Stearoyl Lactylate is a natural, food grade emulsifier derived from stearic acid (plant-derived) and the sodium salt of lactic acid. I first wrote about it here.
